Delhi Government Gears Up to Modernize DTC with Smart Cards, Revamped Terminals

New Delhi – In a bid to revolutionize public transportation in the capital, the Delhi government has unveiled an ambitious plan to modernize the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The initiative aims to provide a more efficient, accessible, and commuter-friendly experience for millions of Delhi residents who rely on buses daily.

Smart Cards to Streamline Travel

A key component of the modernization drive is the introduction of smart travel cards. This move will replace traditional paper tickets and allow commuters to seamlessly pay for their journeys. Benefits of smart cards include:

• Faster boarding and alighting, reducing travel time.
• Contactless payments, enhancing convenience.
• Potential for integrated ticketing across different modes of transport in the future.

Comprehensive Route Restructuring and Bus Terminal Upgrades

Beyond smart cards, the plan encompasses a complete restructuring of existing bus routes to optimize coverage and frequency. In addition, major upgrades are planned for inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs), transforming them into modern, well-equipped transit hubs. These upgrades will include:
