UPI Faces Intermittent Technical Issues, NPCI Monitors Situation

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced late Saturday night that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has been stable since late afternoon, and they are continuing to monitor the situation closely.

Earlier in the day, around noon, the payments interface experienced “intermittent technical issues,” causing transaction declines across several banks and platforms.

Recent UPI Outages

Saturday’s disruption marks the second such occurrence in April. This is in addition to the interruption on April 1, when banks and payment platforms experienced procedural issues due to technical adjustments related to the financial year’s end.

The other outage occurred on April 2, where users of some banks’ UPI payments server experienced brief latency. In both prior instances, services were eventually restored.

User Reports on Downdetector

Downdetector, a website that monitors outages based on user reports, indicated that the issue was first observed around 11:30 a.m. The number of reports peaked around 1 p.m., with approximately 2,400 people reporting inconvenience. Reports began to decrease around 3 p.m.
