EPFO has launched a new method about UAN, your work will be now done without hassel

UAN Activation Just Got Easier: Aadhaar Face Authentication Launched!
Great news for employed folks! The often-complicated process of obtaining your Universal Account Number (UAN) is about to get a whole lot simpler. The EPFO has introduced a new Aadhaar-based face authentication method for generating and activating your UAN.
This means generating and activating your UAN is now easier than ever before. You can access this service through the UMANG app and enjoy all the EPFO services, such as viewing your passbook, updating your KYC, and submitting claims. But how exactly does this work? Let’s dive in.
Why Was UAN Activation a Headache Before?
Previously, activating a UAN often presented challenges. Issues like incorrect information, OTP problems, or discrepancies in Aadhaar data were common. Sometimes, the UAN simply didn’t reach the employee, or the mobile number associated with it was incorrect or missing.
Now, the process has been streamlined. With just a smartphone and a few clicks, you can activate your UAN without any paperwork. The numbers speak for themselves: out of 1.26 crore UANs, only 44.68 lakh were activated in 2024-25. That’s only about 30%! This new technology is expected to significantly increase that figure.
How to Activate Your UAN Through the UMANG App: A Step-by-Step Guide
So, how does this new system work? It all happens through the UMANG app – the same UMANG app created by the Government of India to provide citizens with access to various government services on a single platform. Here’s a breakdown of the steps:
Step-by-Step UAN Activation
- Download UMANG App: First, download the UMANG app from the Play Store.
- Download AadhaarFaceRD app: Next, download the AadhaarFaceRD app as well.
- Go to UAN Services: Open the UMANG app and navigate to “UAN Allotment and Activation”.
- Enter Aadhaar and mobile number: Enter your Aadhaar number and the mobile number linked to it.
- Enter OTP: Enter the OTP you receive and tick the checkbox to provide your consent.
- Use face detection: Use your camera to take a live photo of yourself. When the green outline appears, your photo will be captured.
- UAN will be activated: Your UAN will now be activated after verification with the Aadhaar database and sent to your registered mobile number via SMS. You can also download it from the UMANG app or the EPFO portal.
That’s all there is to it! You can now generate and activate your UAN independently, without needing assistance from your employer.
Enhanced Security with Facial Recognition
Using facial recognition to activate your UAN offers a significant security boost. While traditional methods like OTP or demographic verification can be prone to errors, facial recognition provides a more accurate and secure verification process. This ensures that no fraud occurs and your UAN remains completely safe.
