Jaat box office collection day 2: Sunny Deol’s film goes south after losing 400 shows across India, passes Rs 15 crore

Jaat Box Office Collection Day 2: Sunny Deol Starrer Faces Dip

After a rather lukewarm reception on its opening day, Sunny Deol’s latest film, Jaat, experienced a drop in both collections and the number of shows across India.

Remember Gadar 2? It shattered box office records! Now, Sunny Deol is back, this time with Jaat. The film is directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the powerhouse behind the Pushpa franchise.

Day 2 Numbers Tell the Tale

After kicking off with Rs 9.5 crore on its release day, early estimates from Sacnilk suggest that Jaat earned around Rs 7 crore in India on its second day. This brings the film’s total to Rs 16.5 crore in India so far.

Show Count Takes a Hit

On its release day, Jaat enjoyed approximately 5585 shows across India. However, that number dwindled to 5141 shows on day two. That’s a significant reduction of almost 400 shows, including 100 shows in Mumbai and 30 shows in Delhi-NCR. This certainly impacted the film’s second-day earnings.

While the Sunny Deol-starrer had an overall Hindi occupancy of 14.28% on Thursday, the film saw an occupancy of just 11.19% on Friday.

Star-Studded Cast and South Indian Aspirations

Alongside Sunny Deol, Jaat features Randeep Hooda as the main villain. The action-thriller also boasts well-known names from the South, including Ramya Krishnan and Jagapathi Babu.

It seems Jaat is Sunny’s attempt to tap into the South Indian market, much like Shah Rukh Khan did with Jawan in 2023. However, the number of shows in key regions like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai also saw reductions on the second day.

Bollywood’s Southern Efforts

Following the success of Jawan, many Bollywood stars have tried to incorporate South Indian elements into their films. However, these attempts have largely been unsuccessful. Salman Khan’s Sikandar, for example, barely crossed the Rs 100 crore mark, and Varun Dhawan’s Baby John failed to make a mark.

What’s Next for Sunny Deol?

While Gadar 2 earned Rs 41 crore on its opening day, Sunny hadn’t experienced a solo hit in about two decades prior to that. After Jaat, Sunny Deol is slated to appear in Lahore 1947 and the sequel to the iconic film Border.

The cast of Jaat also includes Saiyami Kher, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Zarina Wahab, among others.
