Hanuman Jayanti Procession Disrupted by Stone Pelting in Guna
Tension flared in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday evening as a Hanuman Jayanti procession was met with stone pelting, briefly disturbing the peace in the Karnailganj area. The incident unfolded around 7:30 pm near a mosque, reportedly sparked by a dispute between two groups.
Law enforcement and local authorities responded swiftly, deploying personnel to the site to regain control. “Peace and order was slightly affected for some time, but with prompt action by the administration, the area is now calm. We urge citizens not to believe in any kind of rumours,” stated the local administration, emphasizing the importance of avoiding misinformation.
Swift Action by Police Leads to Arrests
The police have acted decisively, arresting nine individuals in connection with the stone pelting incident. Guna Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Sinha has assured the public that the situation is firmly under control. To maintain order and prevent further disturbances, additional police personnel remain stationed in the area.
Key Accused Apprehended
Vicky Pathan, identified as the main accused, is now in police custody. Local sources indicate Pathan is an active member of the Congress party and a former municipal elections candidate from Ward 6.
Accusations and Reactions Following Arrest
Following Vicky’s arrest, his wife, Najma, alleged that police personnel assaulted both her husband and their son during the arrest. Najma stated that if her husband and son were not released, she would take her own life. She maintains her husband’s innocence, claiming he had no involvement in the violence and previously served as a councillor in their locality.
Scindia Intervenes, Calls for Peace
Union Civil Aviation Minister and local MP Jyotiraditya Scindia quickly addressed the situation, contacting senior officials, including the SP, to assess the circumstances. He has directed them to prioritize the maintenance of peace and ensure strict action against those responsible for the violence.
Details of the Disruption
Sources suggest that the stone pelting originated from a disagreement between two groups during the Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra. The precise cause of the confrontation is still under investigation. However, officials have confirmed that there were no reports of major injuries or significant property damage.
The Hanuman Jayanti festival was being celebrated across Madhya Pradesh with traditional religious processions and gatherings. Authorities have reiterated that normalcy has been restored in the affected area of Guna and that security measures will remain in place to prevent any future incidents.
